Green Valley Ranch, located near Coram, Montana, holds deep family history dating back to 1914 when the Green family homesteaded the land. The ranch was originally a timber sawmill and family homestead, supporting a large family through the early and mid-20th century. Over time, the property fell into disrepair after being sold in the 1940s and later used as a dude ranch. In 1999, Betty Jo Steel, a descendant of the Green family, repurchased 205 acres of the original homestead to restore and reclaim the family legacy. Working with architect Larry Pearson, the restoration project carefully blended rustic, natural materials with thoughtful design that honored the original homestead style and family heritage. The new lodge features reclaimed elements like wagon wheel chandeliers and a stone fireplace, alongside modern conveniences wrapped in timeless simplicity. The ranch is nestled in a scenic valley with views into Glacier National Park and is surrounded by forest land. The family has undertaken efforts with the U.S. Forest Service to restore the forest and manage fire prevention after historic logging and fires had severely damaged the landscape. Today, Green Valley Ranch operates as a wedding venue of your dreams—offering a stunning, intimate setting surrounded by breathtaking Montana wilderness. It’s also an ideal spot for family reunions or simply a peaceful retreat to get away from it all and relax. The property is carefully maintained year-round by on-site caretakers who protect the land, buildings, and natural beauty, ensuring guests enjoy a pristine and welcoming experience. Green Valley Ranch continues to serve as a gathering place for multiple generations, strengthening family bonds and traditions while preserving the legacy of the original Green homestead. The ranch reflects a deep connection to Montana’s rugged history and the personal stories of the family who lived and worked the land for over a century.

The property is stunning and so well maintained. It is the perfect Montana Mountain backdrop, with an intimate and exclusive vibe. With multiple options for ceremony, cocktail hour and reception sites, it was great for accommodating different goals and visions. That said, the biggest selling point of this venue in my mind is the caretakers, Mike and Crystal. While this is their first season on property, their commitment to the guest/event success is truly overwhelming. They take hospitality and a hard work ethic to the next level. My experience at GVR was taken from “good”, to “out of this world”, simply because of the kindness and energy these two put towards my client’s big day. Their willingness to collaborate, to get their hands dirty, and to make the clients feel special was obvious to all. I cannot recommend this venue and these people enough. Hope to return soon!
